Engine Compartment: A complete performance overhaul. It produces about 400 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, including the dyno board. I started with a short block 302 and had all the new parts - pistons, crankshaft rods, etc. It contains a cylindrical compound cam, rotary pumps, a large-volume oil pump, a double-cylinder timing chain and ARP bolts. At the top are the Edelbrock intake, American Roadster self-adjusting fuel injection, 30-pound injector, 70mm mass airflow and Edelbrock fuel rails. Contains Ford Racing diffuser and 8mm wires. This is something I've never seen before on air conditioning and heat from a Cobra!
Luggage compartment: carpeted. The battery is in a battery box. There is an emergency fuel cut. There is a Cobra bag for a lead hammer that is used to remove shocks.
What's Underneath a 1965 Shelby Cobra.
Ford Racing powder-coated full-tube space frame. Factory five independent suspension front and rear. Up front, it has tubular control arms, gas-adjustable shocks, a rod, sprocket and steering. It also has independent three-link rear suspension and tubular control arms. Adjustable coilover gas shocks, Panhard rod and Sway bar. Mustang Cobra four-wheel disc brakes with perforated and slotted rotors and an electronic brake system. New fuel system. Looking at the engine, it has a cadmium-coated extra capacity oil pan, a remote oil filter, and a high-torque starter. Quick bell housing, Centerforce knob, and T5 five-speed transmission. 8.8 inch rear with traction lock gears. All aluminum floors. It still looks practically new.
Of all the classic cars, none are as exhilarating as the Cobra. Wagon-like maneuverability, the roar of pipes, the wind blowing your skin and of course the amazing power-to-weight ratio!
