For the first time the Audi R8 GT, Audi Sport GmbH is launching the second version of this exclusive super sports car: the Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD. Output of the 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated V10 engine has increased to 602 horsepower, making it the most powerful rear-wheel drive unit in the brand's history. And a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for faster shifts.
R8 GT says goodbye to the V10 engine
In addition to the rear-wheel drive R8 V10 engine with 562 hp, which is the basis for the second edition of the R8 GT, Audi Sport GmbH is increasing the performance of the special model in order to bring it to the same level as the quattro model. Specifically, this means:
- 602 horsepower from a 10-cylinder.
- and 5.2 liters of displacement.
- and 413 lb-ft of torque.
As a result, the new R8 GT accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds. It reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 10.1 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 320 km/h. h (199 mph).
How to make the Audi R8 GT more fun without taking risks
To make the Audi R8 GT look more fun without risking an expensive insurance claim, the R8 is equipped with a new Torque Rear Drive Mode. This is similar to the variable traction control system as quickly becoming popular in the sports car industry, with Level 1 providing the least amount of slip. As your skills improve and you get more comfortable performing drifts, you can simply turn the dial on the steering wheel to unlock more freedom. Level 7 is where the car allows a lot of slip.
How has the Audi R8 GT been enhanced to be more agile
To enhance the car's agility even further, there's a new carbon fiber-reinforced plastic anti-roll bar paired with two red-anodized aluminum coupling-rod links, and if you want to be even more aggressive, an adjustable coilover suspension is available.
There's also less ballast to lug around in, thanks to the "different scales." These have reduced curb weight by approximately 44 pounds for a new total of 3461 pounds, while the standard ceramic brakes ensure that you stop with minimal effort. Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires are also available, with exclusive 20-inch 10-spoke wheels.
Other unique aesthetic upgrades include a black painted intake manifold and Carbon Aerokit. This kit consists of a front splitter, side skirts (side shrouds), side edge shrouds, rear bumper uprights, diffuser and an aerodynamically optimized gooseneck rear spoiler.
Referring to the first R8 GT, the launch color is a matte Suzuka Gray, but Tangorot Metallic and Daytona Gray Metallic are also available.
Inside, the color is inlaid with a mixture of black and red. The red seatbelts have been exclusive to the R8 GT for 12 years, and the floor and bucket seats feature further black and red accents in the form of model-specific logos.
And at the center of the gear selector lever, the R8 GT's sequential numbering is proudly displayed in a partially darkened area of carbon fiber insert, informing the passenger which 333 model belongs to you. This designation refers to a global total, so this would be a rare car in any country.
