Is Rivian in trouble

Some Rivian EV owners have noticed problems with the battery draining while the car is idle, and have taken to car communities to debate whether or not this is normal.

According to what we've seen from car owners' posts, some cases were experiencing battery drain at normal rates, while others at rates that seemed to be very high.

The good news is that this is a dead battery problem in Rivian cars that only seems to be encountered by a handful of owners. One owner revealed that he left his Rivian R1T plugged in for a week and found that it drew 32kWh, which is about 4.6kWh per day (equivalent to walking about 12km per day).

Later, the same owner contacted Rivian to see if the battery drain at this rate was normal or not and the company confirmed that it is not normal. The company then scheduled a maintenance appointment to ensure there was no problem with the truck itself.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that problems of this kind have appeared in Rivian cars, as a number of owners reported that the battery ran out for no reason months ago.

Meanwhile, one owner said on the Rivian forums that he believes the latest update is to blame for the dead battery, and said his battery drain rate has increased daily from 1.8 percent to 4 percent with the latest update.

Another owner said that a technician at Rivian told him that draining the battery at a rate of 1 percent every 12 hours was normal, and recommended that he plug the car into a charger if he wasn't going to use it for a while. Although some car owners have indicated that the battery drain increases with the charger connected.
