What's new for 2022.

The all-new Range Rover 2022 - not to be confused with the outgoing model, which is 2022 as well - has been redesigned from the ground up with an updated design, new technical features and luxurious touches. A more luxurious and customizable SV will join the 2023 model range. The previous generation Range Rover, which is also a 2022 model currently on sale, is undergoing some changes for 2022. Diesel models such as the V-6 and P400e hybrids have been discontinued from the Range Rover lineup. The new model, leaving the turbocharged inline-six and the supercharged V-8 as the only two powertrain options. Buyers can now add a more powerful cabin air ionization system.

What type of engine, transmission and performance.

At launch, the new Range Rover will be available with three engine combinations, starting with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt hybrid called the P400 that produces 395 horsepower. During initial test drives, it proved to be silky smooth and provided enough power to pull the big Range Rover. The 523-hp 4.4-liter V-8 — dubbed the Land Rover P530 — is a more advanced engine and increases the Range Rover's towing capacity to 8,200 pounds. Land Rover says a 434-horsepower hybrid option will join the lineup for 2023 and offer up to 48 miles of electric-only driving; An all-electric model will be available starting in 2024. The new Range Rover's ride is suitably luxurious, and with its comfort-adjustable air suspension kit, it virtually floats on the road. Switching the dial to dynamic mode increases a few things, but the big rover still aims for the task of resting first. When we get a chance to take the Range Rover on our test track, we'll update this story with the test results. Meanwhile, the outgoing Range Rover, which buyers may find stashed at a few dealers, may be a relative bargain.

Fuel economy and MPG in the real world.

The entry-level P400 is rated at 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway while the V-8-powered P530 gets 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. When we have the opportunity, we'll test the Range Rover on the 75 mph highway fuel economy track and update this story with details. Interior, comfort and freight.

As with previous Range Rover generations, the new generation model offers a plush interior trimmed in rich leather and woods, but buyers who want a more sustainable cabin can now opt for a new leather-free option, which includes wool or other textiles. The cabin can be arranged to seat four, five or seven depending on the configuration and wheelbase. The third row, even in the long wheelbase rims, may not fit tall adults because headroom there is somewhat limited, but shorter passengers and children will find it almost as comfortable as the second row. An optional motorized divider for the cargo area helps keep things from moving around too much while travelling, and the Range Rover's separate tailgate can be used as ergonomic and comfortable seating for outdoor events.

We recommend opting for the mid-range Autobiography model, which adds many desirable elements that luxury car buyers will appreciate. The Autobiography, for example, comes standard with a 1600-watt Meridian stereo system that features headrest-mounted speakers and active noise cancellation. The new Range Rover will be offered in both short and long wheelbase body styles; We suggest using the latter as it frees up space for the third row of seats and provides more cargo space.
